Welcome to Capital Designs II, LTD! We started this blog as a way to share our industry insight and experience when creating and building a custom home. From deciding things such as overall square footage needed, to lighting for a variety of spaces or moods, to utilizing design methods to express your own style, people are faced with many decisions when building a home. We hope to answer some questions and highlight the process of building your new home.

As a residential design firm, we get so many questions about the home building process. Anyone who has ever built a home can most likely agree that this process is often overwhelming, and they aren't wrong! Our goal is to highlight all of the steps, people involved, and decisions made as we build the Burns Residence.

About six months ago, my husband and I started to chew on the idea and concept of space. We were thinking about space in terms of our home and lot size, as well as the comparative idea of space in terms of geography and distance into town. With all four children graduated from college, the timing seemed right to transition from our current home that we purchased to something that felt more rural and our style. After many discussions, we came to an agreement that if we were going to move again, we would be building our dream house. Things at the top of our wish list were: A larger kitchen, lots of natural light, a sense of timelessness, and trees trees trees! After looking at several lots, we settled for one with multiple large post oaks that will outline our backyard living space. Deciding on our lot location was daunting, but it fit our needs so we decided to take a leap of faith!
